Look what You Can do with Three Scarves!

by Rosemary Harris
(England)

Recently I was invited to a salsa party. I had only one hour to get a costume together. In desperation I looked through my closets.

I found three large, square scarves which had fringes at the edges. They were all of different colors and patterns but worked harmoniously together.

Clearly there was no time to do any sewing. So I simply took two of the scarves and folded each one of them into a triangle. I tied one scarf so that the point of the triangle was on my left hand side. The other scarf I tied with the point of the triangle over my right hand side.

The third scarf I folded over and over until I had a sash about 10cm (4inches) wide with the fringes showing on the lower edge. This I then fastened with pins around my waist.

Worn with a brightly colored, close fitting tee shirt the result was a cheap and cheerful Latin costume where all hip movements set the fringes dancing.

My costume was a real talking point.
